Frequently Asked Questions
We know that birth and postpartum care can bring up a lot of questions, and all of them are valid!
Here you’ll find honest, straightforward answers to some of the most common things families ask when considering doula support. If you’re wondering about something specific, feel free to reach out directly!
-
A doula is a trained birth companion who provides emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after your baby's arrival. Steph's role is entirely non-medical. She's not there to deliver your baby, that's your midwife or doctor. She's there to make sure you feel calm, informed, heard, and held through the whole experience. Think of her as your guide, your advocate, and a steady hand in an environment that can feel overwhelming.
-
As early as you like, even from a positive test. The earlier you connect, the more supported your pregnancy will feel from the start. That said, Steph works with families at any stage. If you're 34 weeks and just realised you want support, reach out anyway.
-
Absolutely. Whether you're planning a vaginal birth, pursuing a VBAC, or preparing for a planned or unplanned caesarean, Steph has been there. She's as comfortable in theatre as she is in a birth suite, and she'll be in there with you either way.
-
No, and it's an important distinction. Your midwife and doctor manage the medical side: monitoring your baby, handling interventions, ensuring a safe delivery. Steph's role is purely supportive. She helps you breathe through contractions, suggests comfort measures, keeps your partner calm and involved, and makes sure your wishes are clearly communicated to the team.
-
Definitely.
Partners are an essential part of the process. Steph works with both of you throughout prenatal sessions, teaching massage techniques, breathing cues, and how to be genuinely useful in the room. When families feel prepared together, everyone breathes easier. -
Steph intentionally limits her client numbers to ensure every family receives her full attention and availability. Spots fill quickly, particularly for popular due date months, so early enquiry is always recommended.
-
That's exactly what Steph prepares you for. The goal isn't a 'perfect birth'. It's a birth where you feel informed, supported, empowered and heard at every decision point. Whatever unfolds, you won't face it alone.
