What it is (and isn’t)

The Spike Buddy is not a medical device. It doesn’t treat, cure or prevent any condition, and it isn’t a substitute for medical care or advice. It’s a sensory distraction tool for general comfort and focus only. If you have questions about your health or your birth plan, talk to your doctor, midwife or care team.

Magnets

Your Spike Buddy contains small magnets inside each ball.

• Keep it away from babies, children and pets. Magnets can be seriously harmful if swallowed.

• If a magnet or any part is swallowed, seek emergency medical care straight away. Don’t wait for symptoms.

• Check with your doctor first if you have a pacemaker or another implanted medical device. Magnets may interfere with these devices.

• Keep it away from credit cards, phones and other magnetic or electronic items.

Hands only

Use your Spike Buddy in your hands only. It isn’t designed for use on any other parts of the body.

• Squeeze gently at first and build up pressure as you need it.

• Stop if it hurts, or if the spikes ever break the skin.

• Don’t use it on broken, irritated or sunburnt skin.

Who it’s for

• The Spike Buddy is not a toy. Adults should supervise anyone using it.

• If you’re pregnant and have any concerns about using it, check in with your care provider first.

Care and cleaning

The Spike Buddy is made from ABS plastic and is fully waterproof, so you can take it in the shower, the bath or the birth pool.

• Wash with dish soap under running water.

• Dry it off before you pop the two balls back together.

• Check it regularly for cracks, damage or loose parts, and stop using it if anything looks broken. Damaged magnets or plastic can become a hazard.

• Store it somewhere safe and out of reach of children and pets.
